Gemini for Windows — the native desktop app Google never shipped.
Google released a Mac app. They gave Windows a glorified search bar. GeminiDesktop is the real native Windows client: Alt+Space quick launch, local file access, multi-model routing, no Microsoft Store account needed.
Free during Beta. BYOK your own Gemini or OpenRouter key. Not affiliated with Google.
Quick answer
No, Google does not offer an official native Gemini desktop app for Windows. The "Google app for desktop" released April 2026 is an Alt+Space search launcher with a 20 MB file limit — not a Gemini chat client. GeminiDesktop is an independent native app that fills the gap: full chat UI, local files, multi-model routing, and every Gemini feature the web app is missing. Free during Beta.
